GEM, an online boutique for homeowners and designers, was created to meet the needs for eco-friendly quality products for construction and decoration projects.

Developed by Marc and Cecile, brother and sister, artisan entrepreneurs with a passion for the environment, Green Earth Materials is the result of our combined construction know-how, sustainable living, environmental studies, green building and renewable energy expertise.

It all started fifteen years ago when Cecile and Marc were developing a sustainable farm in the French Pyrenees. Their goal was to set an example of what could be done to reduce one’s carbon footprint. The project included a solar house, a couple ofbarns remodeled with green products, spring water collection, and wastewater treated on site. Then in 2001, Marc moved to the US to further his education, and positioned himself as a respected building contractor in the Los Angeles area. Meanwhile, Cecile went on to work at the Office National des Forets, the French Forest Service, as a GIS (Geographic Information System) project manager.

In 2011, LA Green Building was created as part of the vision to offer both green products and quality workmanship to a discerning clientele. LA Green Building would be the construction-side of the operation, while GEM, Green Earth Materials, would fill the niche for eco-friendly building materials and decorative products. It was only in 2013, when Cecile became a webmaster, that GEM, an online only store would see the light.

We at GEM are committed to offering sustainable products selected for their green features, a selection informed by our experience. All items displayed where chosen for the qualities that make us want to have them in our own homes. All products were in fact installed in our homes, or those of our direct customers with full satisfaction. Your satisfaction being our main concern, we appreciate any comment you may have to help us provide the best possible service. Let us know how we are doing.
